Read the instructions for your scan
Preparation differs by body area and protocol. Some scans need little preparation, while others may have specific food, drink, medication or arrival instructions.
Think about MRI safety before scan day
Tell the clinic about implants, metal, previous surgery, possible pregnancy and anything else asked on the safety form. Do not assume an implant is automatically safe or unsafe without checking the specific details.
If you are claustrophobic
Raise this when arranging the appointment rather than waiting until you arrive. The clinic can explain the scanner, positioning, communication and what support options are available within its approved practice.
Bring the right information
If the team has asked for a referral, previous report or details of an implant, bringing that information can help avoid delays and unnecessary uncertainty on the day.
